Diode or valve? Whats the difference?
To be honest there really isn’t a difference. To get the whole idea of how a diode works check out the lesson here.
Basically a diode allows current to flow in one direction but not the other.
This is useful when it comes to rectification.
What is rectification?
Rectification is when you take an AC wave form and turn it into DC. In the case of this example we are taking an AC sine wave and converting it into a pulsating DC circuit.
As I mention in the video it is important that you determine your peak values. For more info on these formulas check out the lesson here. Once You’re at peak, you can use the following formulas:
Erms/.707 = Epk
Epk/resistance = Ipk
Epk x .318 = Edc
Ipk x .318 = Idc
Epk x Ipk /4 = Power
Remember that you are using half of DC values (.318 instead of .637) because you only have one hump per cycle as opposed to two humps like you would in an AC sine wave or full wave rectification.
