Who am I?

Hey!

My name is Chad Flinn and I’m the main guy behind the Electric Academy- A blog dedicated to making Electrical education fun and interactive.

I’m an instructor at an electrical apprenticeship program in Vancouver Canada. I hold my red seal ticket as an Electrician and have a diploma as an Instructor. First and foremost I am a family man, husband to my wife Joanie and father to my three kids: Bodhi, Alex and Kate.

My story

It has always been a dream of mine to teach. While attending university I had amassed a sizeable student loan debt. I decided that I was going to take some time off of school and get a job to pay down those student loans. That job turned into 4 years of an apprenticeship as an Electrician and finally my journeyman ticket.

That ticket lead me up north to the oilsands of Alberta to make some big money. I made some great money, met some great people, and had some amazing experiences in Fort McMurray but I missed my family back down south in British Columbia. I started looking for work closer to home.

I found an ad online for a school looking for an electrical Instructor. I applied, went through the interview process and was hired. I felt like I had won the lottery!

Here I am years later and I still feel that way! I have no doubt that I am where I am supposed to be in my life and doing what I am supposed to be doing.

Why The Electric Academy?

Going through University and trades school school did not feel safe for me ( and I know a lot of you can relate to this feeling). If I couldn’t understand a concept I would have to fight through it on my own or with the help of fellow students.

The goal of The Electric Academy is to provide a safe place for students in the Electrical apprenticeship program. A place to have your questions listened to and answered. Through tutorial videos and blog posts I will provide you with a resource to help you on your journey.

I will share with you how I see the concepts and math behind electrical theory. I like to strip away all the fluff and big words and get down to the basics behind each concept.

Thanks for taking the time to find out a bit about who I am and what I am about and I hope to see you on the blog sometime.
